The Verin Karmirahbyur Historical Museum is located in the village of Verin Karmirahbyur in the Tavush region of Armenia. It was founded in 1964 by Seryoja Mkhitaryan, a history teacher and distinguished educator, to present the history of the village to the next generations in order to preserve items of historical and cultural value found in the vicinity.
By the decision of the Collegium of the Ministry of Culture of the Armenian SSR on January 31, 1980 among 10 other museums, the museum of the village of Verin Karmirahbyur of Shamshadin district was awarded the title "National Museum". The museum was awarded many diplomas. The regional and republican press regularly wrote about the museum and created television and radio programs about its rich collection. Museum exhibits were collected by donations from fellow villagers and members of the archaeological team. The collection continues to grow to this day. In the post-Soviet period, since Armenia's independence, the museum has been under the tutelage of the founder's son Avag Mkhitaryan.
The total number of exhibits in the museum is 3,875. This rich collection contains items of traditional life of the Armenian people (earthen and copper dishes, wine jugs, etc.), tools of the Armenian peasant, some elements of rural clothes, samples of stone and bronze age (stone axe, stone device for fur processing), types of weapons (even female guns), types of coins and banknotes, other items of great archeological value.
