Vayots Dzor region, RA

The area of the Vayots Dzor region of Armenia is 2308 square km. It is located in the south-east region of the country. It is the most sparsely populated region of the republic. Here you can find the Bird's Cave, where during the excavations the oldest shoes in the world of 5500 years old were discovered. These shoes are now preserved in the History Museum of Armenia. The remnants of grape squeeze and a number of wine carats were also found in the cave. This may be the oldest winery in the world. The famous sanatorium city in Armenia, Jermuk, is also located on the territory of the region. The city is 175 km far from Yerevan. Its surroundings are rich of Alpine meadows, forests and forest rivers. It is famous for its health resorts, clean and green zones. There are no factories polluting the air and the environment in the city.
