"Zarni-Parni" cave-fortress complex is located in a beautiful forested gorge not far from the village of Haghpat, famous for its unique monastic complex, from where the wonderful panorama of the surrounding mountains, "Kayan" fortress, opens.

In the territory of the complex there are two castles that are the embodiment of the unwavering will and perseverance of the participants of the liberation struggle: "Zarni er" և "Parni er", as well as the cave called "Tsak er", where according to historical sources, a thinker of XI-XII centuries lived Philosopher John the Wise.

These historical monuments have long been buried under perennial soil and dense forest.

In 2016-2019, thanks to the personal efforts of Ruben Mesropyan, a resident of Yerevan, this medieval cave-fortress complex was restored and given a new lease of life. After repairing the road to the historical monuments, work began to clear the area, and stairs were dug on the slopes of the cliffs, allowing anyone to climb to the impregnable "Parni er" to communicate in harmony with the nature.

Museum under the sky

In the completely cleaned and restored castles, a historical museum has been created, which displays rare specimens representing the life and culture of the local population, in particular, plow, yolk, or clay shells, and other household items.

There is a fountain in the "Zarni Er" cave, the water of which was subjected to laboratory examination, and it turned out that it was pure drinking water. The locals (Haghpat residents) say that it is known as healing water. The water is collected in stone pots so that those who wish can drink it.

During the cleaning works of the cave, to the right of the entrance, next to the wall of the fence, a production facility for grape processing was found, a harvester, which refers to the XIV-XV centuries. The presence of the vine proves that people lived here and were engaged in winemaking. Ruben Mesrobyan has established vineyards in the area to reinterpret this ancient occupation. A small place of worship was built from the stones found on the slopes, which are supposed to have been the remains of a chapel.
